Grants and Communication Manager

Family & Child Empowerment Services (FACES) SF provides families who live and work in San Francisco with high-quality early childhood education and enrichment; job support, training, and placement; and comprehensive family support services and referrals. Position Summary 

The Grants and Communications Manager is a key member of the DevComms team at FACES SF, responsible for seeking and writing new grant applications, managing a portfolio of grant applications and reports, and supporting the Senior Director with external communications to funders, partners, and donors. Reporting to the Senior Director, the Grants and Communications Manager will be part of a collaborative and dynamic cross-functional team focused on growing contributed revenue for the organization as it implements a new strategic plan. 

What You’ll Do 

Grant Management & Reporting (40%) 

Responsible for conducting the full range of activities required to prepare, submit, and manage grant reports and proposals for current supporters. In collaboration with internal partners, draft narratives, budgets, and additional materials, such as logic models and timelines, for institutional grant applications. Maintain files, calendar of proposal and report deadlines, and database records on grant prospects, submissions and deliverables. Support relationship management with key contacts, including scheduling meetings and site visits, writing acknowledgement letters, attending bidders conferences, and providing follow-up information and documentation to funders as needed. 

Proposal Development & Prospecting (30%) 

Identify new foundation, corporate, and government prospects. Write opportunity assessments, letters of inquiry, concept papers, and research briefings. Work as a thought partner with program managers to develop compelling and persuasive grant applications, including project descriptions, needs statements, objectives and outcomes, and project budgets.

External Communications and Other Organizational Responsibilities (30%) 

Support the Senior Director to manage our external-facing communications and marketing projects and tasks, including newsletters, brand and website updates, social media posts, reports, press releases, donor acknowledgements, and other communication required to keep our key audiences engaged in our mission. 


You have a solid mix of the following experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities: 

  • 5+ years of grant writing and/or public funding management experience, especially with historically marginalized families and communities; local Bay Area experience is a plus! 
  • Strong written, analytical, and verbal communication skills. 
  • Track record of working effectively with program leaders to coordinate and successfully deliver grant projects. 
  • Strong knowledge base around program budgeting and operations data management.
  • Demonstrated project management skills. Ability to take initiative, establish priorities, work independently, and make progress on a variety of projects simultaneously. 
  • Familiarity with CRMs, collaboration, research and project management tools required.
  • Ability to analyze complex data sets and present results to multiple audiences.
  • Ability to collaborate and connect with a wide range of stakeholders.

What We Offer 

  • Competitive salary between $78,000-$88,000 based on experience
