Human Resources Manager


Family & Child Empowerment Services (FACES) SF provides families who live and work in San Francisco with high-quality early childhood education and enrichment; job support, training, and placement; and comprehensive family support services and referrals. FACES SF Human Resources (HR) Manager will be an integral part of a growing operations team working to ensure our hardworking, dedicated employees have everything they need to succeed. This person will work to cultivate an inspiring and productive work environment for all staff while ensuring operational compliance. This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys the details of administrative tasks and thinks creatively to prioritize, analyze data, problem-solve, and solution make, and improve systems to be easy and efficient for staff. The HR Manager should be a resourceful self-starter with strong project and time management skills. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment and bring a blend of patience, curiosity, and accountability to this new role. 

What You’ll Do

Human Resources General Support

  • Manage system to collect, update, and maintain all employee records
  • Act as co-administrator for HR and payroll software (ADP)
  • Support HR Director in creating recruitment plans to attract diverse and talented candidates
  • Support hiring managers and HR Director with administrative tasks related to recruitment, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and offboarding processes
  • Coordinate benefits open enrollment and ongoing administration, including medical, dental, vision, LTD, 403b, life insurance, and FSA & HSA plans
  • Support finance with payroll and annual audit as needed 
  • Run ADP reports on HR data, including retention, demographics, PTO balances, benefits usage, etc. 
  • Prioritize employee support, answering variety of HR related questions accurately and promptly
  • Review and advise on innovative HR trends and best practices

Human Resources Compliance

  • Coordinate with HR Director to complete all compliance and reporting documents and requests from funders and other government agencies
  • Partner with HR Director to ensure that FACES SF remains in compliance with all relevant labor laws and regulations, including but not limited to recruiting, hiring, compensation, benefits, discipline, and termination
  • Support COVID-19 response, including implementing and communicating COVID-19 policies, exposure management protocols, and employee wellness resources

Minimum Qualifications: We seek candidates with a solid mix of the following knowledge, ability, skills and experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working in an administrative role with human resources responsibilities, PHR certification a plus
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills with the ability to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders in a diverse community
  • Deep commitment to aligning operational practices with our values, including justice, equity, inclusion, and belonging 
  • Sound judgment to handle sensitive and confidential information
  • Knowledge of FMLA, CFRA, COBRA, ERISA, HIPAA, and other state and federal regulations
  • Innovative thinker who can contribute to continuous improvement of protocols, policies and operating procedures and adapt to new technology and platforms
  • Resourceful and able to multitask, prioritize, manage time effectively 
  • Proficient technical skills, including ADP Software, database, word processing, spreadsheets, presentation, and online communications (e.g., Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Zoom, etc.)
  • Experience working with nonprofit organizations preferred, especially those with educators on staff
  • Passion for our mission and a desire to humbly reflect and grow in pursuit of that mission

  • Must clear a LiveScan criminal background check and TB Risk Assessment
  • Must have COVID-19 Vaccination or willing to test weekly

Our HR Manager will know and treat everyone with the highest respect from the kitchen staff to the CEO. You don’t play office politics, gossip or betray confidences. As a result, you are trusted and maintain collaborative and open relationships.

You view yourself as a partner to our HR Director and VP of Operations and Growth. You work to ensure that HR runs smoothly; you are proactive about communication and collaboration at all levels. 

You have your finger on the pulse of FACES; you know what’s happening within individual teams and the organization as a whole and consider how to organize day-to-day tasks to meet the needs of both. You have a clear and organized approach to sharing HR data and the status of projects to key stakeholders.


You are the boots on the ground of our daily routine and often eyes and ears for both staff and the leadership team. You’re warm and outgoing. As staff’s go-to HR administrative person, you communicate clearly, concisely and empathetically. Your writing is accurate, clear, and concise.
